Basics of Ideal Combustion

Implementing the points above have resulted in a 1% to 3% improvement in heat rate and 5% to 15% reduction in NOx emissions plus reduce slagging and lowered CO.

  • Each pound of coal not burnt results in 2.2 lbs less CO2 emissions. A 2% heat rate improvement results in approximately 28,000 less tons of coal burnt for a typical 500 MW unit per year
  • Lowering furnace CO results in less slagging and less waterwall corrosion
  • Improved combustion results in less popcorn ash (Large Particle Ash) formation, reduced SCR pluggage, catalyst contamination, and ammonia slip—all high cost problems.
